The short answer
An additional site should not only grow the network. User management, support, documentation and responsibilities must also be linked to the new way of working.
Design from work on the site
Which employees start, which applications do they use and which equipment is necessary? Also identify which local processes depend on a central environment. This inventory clarifies which facilities must be ready on opening day.
Make agreements on access and management
Employees should be given the right resources without each location developing its own undocumented approach. Use a repeatable process for new accounts, devices and changes. Determine who is local contact point and how the central team is involved.
Treat connections as part of the business process
Discuss the consequences of a connection outage. For some processes an alternative connection is useful; for others, an agreed temporary procedure is sufficient. Choose based on impact and feasibility, and test the agreed solution.
Schedule the first weeks after opening
New situations often only become visible when people actually go to work. Allow time for support and adjustments. JViT focuses on companies in the Benelux and helps prepare infrastructure, workplace and management as a whole.
Discuss this with your team
- Which processes should work on day one?
- Who's the local contact?
- What happens in case of connection loss?
- Have documentation and aftercare been arranged?
