The short answer
Plan the move backwards from the first working day at the new location. Make dependencies, responsible persons and a fallback scenario explicit and test critical services before the move.
Start with the desired first working day
Which teams should be able to work immediately and which processes may temporarily change? Answer that together with the department officials. Create an inventory of workplaces, meeting rooms, printers, access systems and applications. Also bring systems managed by suppliers outside the IT department.
Connect the planning of suppliers
A network can only be tested when cabling, power and connectivity are available. Therefore, record not only moving dates, but also the conditions per step. Assign someone to manage dependencies and coordinate changes. Request timely confirmation of delivery moments and make visible where uncertainty is.
Practice the critical chain
A working Internet connection doesn't prove everything is ready. Test login, main application, call and document processing from the new location. Involve someone who carries out the process daily. Write down the findings with an owner and a date, so that open points do not become a surprise during the move.
Provide support after the switch
Plan capacity for the first working days and communicate one clear reporting route. Arrange what happens if an essential component is not available. JViT helps align the technical plan to move planning, with attention to test moments, transfer and the people starting at the new place.
Discuss this with your team
- Which processes should work on day one?
- Which deliveries depend on each other?
- Has the entire chain been tested?
- Who supports the first working days?
